The Task of Getting There!

Ready to take off from LAX!
While waiting for my flight at LAX, I cleaned up my pending work email and caught up with the last work I hope to see for the trip. I'm going to do my best to hold myself to that.

The 13+ hour flight to Taiwan was actually quite manageable with the help of 4 movies and a couple short naps. I'm sure there were some there somewhere, as the plane was huge, but I literally didn't see a single other American (looking) person on the flight. When I landed in Taiwan, I really regretted not trying to make myself sleep more as I was exhausted and hoping to sleep more on the "short" 4.5 hr flight to Malaysia so that I could waste as little time as possible with my eyes shut in this whole new world. Well, that turned out to be wishful thinking. Only another 30 minutes of shut eye achieved.

I then was able to get myself on the proper train from the airport and 25 hours after getting to LAX, I arrived in downtown KL (Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia. From there I had a relaxing afternoon with only an excursion to a cafe for some local tea and coffee drinks (yes, multiple drinks as I needed the caffeine to stay up until bedtime) and a quick evening drive through downtown KL to check out the Petronas (Twin) Towers up close.

Off to Bali tomorrow morning, and what is sure to be an amazing 4-5 days.

Here are some pictures from my journey there and first evening in KL!

Only 20 more minutes to Taiwan.
First meal - pork dumplings, broccoli, hot and sour soup, and bubble milk tea (boba).
Taipei airport.

Relaxation areas in the airport.
You know you're in Taiwan when ...
Hello Kitty EVERYWHERE.
View from my room at Groovy's - Petronas (twin) Towers on the left, KL tower on the right.
Fish sticks - Malaysian style.
Petronas Towers at night.
And in case the other picture of them wasn't gorgeous enough, here's an even more spectacular view of them from my late night drive around downtown KL with Groovy.
